FW: Kindergarten Pictures

Dear 5th Grade Parents,

We need your help! In previous years, yearbook has included each child's kindergarten picture as part of the 5th grade pages.  In order to do it again this year, we need a Kindergarten (or Pre-K) school photo of your child. Please scan your original picture (NOT a copy) and email it to daniella.defoor@comcast.net.  If you do not have access to a scanner, send in your child's picture labeled with their name and teacher's name and I will scan it.  (You will get your picture back.)  The deadline for sending in pictures is Friday, December 18th.   Remember that photos in good condition will scan to be much clearer than faded or bent photos.  Please, realize this request is for yearbook only and is in no way related to the end of the year 5th grade slide show.

If your name is listed below, we already have your child's kindergarten photo from our archives.

Thank you for your help.

Kemp - Brazile 10/16

Parents -

We've just about wrapped up this week. While the kids are busy working on their new Social Studies (The Changing Nation) and Science (Matter) units, I'm trying to print report cards for next week. I look forward to seeing you during Conference Week. If you forgot your time, just let me know and I'll reply with your time. If you have any concerns and topics you want to cover, feel free to let me know if you need me to compile anything ahead of time. I'll go over their scores that I have and review the report card. I know it's all online, but I'll go over any areas of concern.

With Conference week, we will dismiss 2 hours early all next week. We'll be under a time crunch during the day, so we will not have Spelling next week.

In Reading, we're continuing The Giver by Lois Lowry. We'll work on various skills and I'll model different skills during the read-alouds.

In Writing, we'll work on our expository writing through our unit work and more narrative writing. This quarter, we'll complete narrative pieces in one sitting as well as editing.

In Social Studies, we're working on the period after Reconstruction through the Spanish-American War. The kids were given checklists, but everything is online at http://Brazile.education/social_studies/changing_nation1.html

In Science, the Matter unit has begun. Again, they have checklists, but it's at http://Brazile.education/science/matter.html

Speaking of Science (nice segue), we need some supplies (and some for rotations on October 30). Here's a link if you'd like to sign up http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4DA5A92FA2FA7-supplies

Thanks!

Have a great weekend! Roll Tide!!

Kemp - Brazile

Parents-

Hope you're all doing well. We had a good first day of Iowa testing. Tomorrow, we'll have Written Expression, then Math on Wednesday, and Social Studies/Science on Thursday. There's no scheduled testing on Friday. Because of that, I'd like to move the planned class science test to Friday. We do not have spelling or math tests this week. We test each day until about 10-10:30. No parents are allowed in the building during that time.

I have forms for you to sign for your conference times, but since you made the times online I'm guessing you're ok with the times. If you did not sign up online, I'm sending home your conference time today. Please sign that form and return to confirm. If you signed up online but would still like to confirm your appointment, let me know and I'll send the form home for you.

Thanks,

Shane Brazile
