Holidays - Kemp - Brazile

Parents –

They're all yours!! They were actually very good today. We had rotations and I had several teachers tell me how good our class was for them. That makes me happy.

Thank you to Mrs. Tarpley and Mrs. Stimson for organizing our class party Thursday. Thanks to everyone who supplied treats too! The kids enjoyed it!

I especially want to thank you all for the gifts! Very generous and I'm so appreciative. I hope you all have a great break, stay safe and enjoy the time with your kids.

Kemp - Brazile 12/16

Parents-

Hope everyone's week is going well. The next couple days here are usually rather busy, so I'd like to send out a message now.

Please remember the class holiday party is tomorrow (Thursday, December 17) at 1:00pm. Thank you to Mrs. Tarpley and Mrs. Stimson for their work on the party. Thank you also to everyone who donated supplies.

Speaking of supplies, thanks to everyone who donated for the rotations on Friday. If you still have some, please send in tomorrow so we can get those organized.

Jump back to the party Thursday, the kids are having a gift exchange. The information sheets went home Monday for who your child has in the exchange. Please send those in tomorrow. If your child does not bring a gift, they can not participate. Unfortunately, this means another student also will not receive a gift.

I should have the majority of grading finished and entered by Friday for the second quarter. If I do not finish, I'll pick back up when I return in January.

I hope you all have a great Christmas and holiday season. Please be safe. Enjoy your family time.
Shane Brazile

Kemp - Brazile

Parents -

The countdown is on! Last week before our break. It will be a busy one for us. Last week was busy too as we wrapped up our Science unit (Electricity and Magnetism). We'll finish up our WWI, Jazz Age, and the Great Depression unit this week (test tomorrow). I've noticed a pattern that the kids do well with connections and hands-on information on tests, but they're having trouble with vocabulary. We usually complete those activities first so they're familiar with it and we use it in our discussions, but that's the biggest area of weakness overall. I'm reminding the kids to go over that before our next test.

Last week, we completed the national Hour of Code. The kids loved it! I have links on our website under "Class Links" > "Great Links" if your child wants to continue what we started (http://brazile.education/#class).

I sent home the info sheets for your child's gift exchange partner on Friday. Our class holiday party is Thursday, December 17 at 1:00pm.

My goal for this week: survive. Academically, we'll be working on finishing Gathering Blue. Impressed with their inferencing skills. I like our discussions about the book and the hidden meanings found throughout. In Social Studies, we have our unit test Tuesday and all projects are due. We're not having spelling or math tests this week. We're taking Touchstone tests for Reading (Monday) and Math (Tuesday), which give us an idea of how well your child is progressing compared to others in the class, the school, and the district. They do not factor into grades, yet they're incredibly important because of the data they provide me.

It is a lighter workload for them this week, but I'll keep them busy. We also have holiday related activities (Tuesday, time with Mrs. Kale, Thursday, hot chocolate in the media center and then our holiday party, Friday, sing along and holiday rotations with 5th grade teachers).

I hope to catch up on grading this week. I get a little bogged down at the end of the quarter. I'll be entering grades all day, each day this week. All late work gets pushed back while I get all the on-time assignments entered.

Have a great week!
Shane Brazile

Teachers, please forward this to your parents.  Thank you!

Parents,

We really enjoyed having Julia Cook visit Kemp today.  She writes amazing children's books that help children and parents with everyday topics.  Your children are bringing home book order forms today.  If you would like to get a book before the holiday break, please turn in the order form and send in the money tomorrow, Friday, December 11.  If you send in an order form next week, we will get the books to you after the break.  There is no tax or shipping and handling.  Check out her website:

She will autograph the book as well!  Let us know if you have any questions!

5th grade teachers,

Please make another request to your parents for a kindergarten/pre-school picture for those students who haven't already sent one in or were on our list from our archives. They can email me a copy or send a physical copy in to be scanned.

Thank you for your help!

Daniella

Dear 5th Grade Parents,

We need your help! In previous years, yearbook has included each child's kindergarten picture as part of the 5th grade pages.  In order to do it again this year, we need a Kindergarten (or Pre-K) school photo of your child. Please scan your original picture (NOT a copy) and email it to daniella.defoor@comcast.net.  If you do not have access to a scanner, send in your child's picture labeled with their name and teacher's name and I will scan it.  (You will get your picture back.)  The deadline for sending in pictures is Friday, December 18th.   Remember that photos in good condition will scan to be much clearer than faded or bent photos.  Please, realize this request is for yearbook only and is in no way related to the end of the year 5th grade slide show.

If your name is listed below, we already have your child's kindergarten photo from our archives.

Thank you for your help.
