Parents-
Main points for the email:
· Chaperone notices went out by email last week and hard copy this week. I need them back as soon as possible so we can draw out chaperone names (we'll notify everyone on October 8th).
· Project due dates are being pushed back.
· School is boring and I want to change it.
Now for the long-winded version. Actually the chaperone part above said what I want to say about that. For projects, I've re-evaluated the due dates and while I think it's possible, I think it's too aggressive for this group this early in the year. I'm moving the due dates back a little. I still need to meet some deadlines in order to meet quarter dates but I'm pushing the next due dates back. I'll have it updated on the website soon.
I redesign the projects each year and I've tried to trim out the "busy work" and focus more on the content. In doing so, I think it's very boring. I'm not seeing the creativity in the project production that I was hoping for, but I don't think the parameters I set really allow for it. I can't change this unit, but know I'm working on changing it all for the next units. I want to do more critical thinking and increase the creativity. School needs to be more fun and more engaging, my aim is to get there soon. In saying that, I want to point out that we have a talking problem. Now that we've admitted we have a problem, we'll work on fixing it. I'm cracking down this week or I'm ripping my ears off. Since I need them for my glasses, I'm opting for the former.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Shane Brazile

Parents –
· Progress Reports coming home today
· Math – working on decimal multiplication, then decimal division (IXL skill correlations listed below)
· Social Studies – Starting Civil War/Reconstruction unit
· Science – Constructive/Destructive Force unit
· Reading – continuing Hatchet
· Writing – continued expository writing in S.S./Science
I'm sending home a progress report for each student. It's reflective of what's online through ParentVue. All grades are entered for assignments I've received as of 9:00am this morning (Wednesday). I'll send personal notes for any student with a grade below a C.
For Math, some have asked for the IXL correlations for what we're studying in Math. We're working on decimal multiplication this week and next, before moving to decimal multiplication after that. IXL correlations for both are shown below.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Shane Brazile

Just a quick note of thanks to Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Tarpley for sending in straws for our class. We have enough to do our hands-on experiment.
Thanks!!

Parents –
I'm a man on the edge. Technology is trying to kill me, I think. Not the cyborg robots from the future, but the stress-inducing tech here at school. Our Smartboard only works when IT is in here and our iRespond clicker system doesn't freak out when they're around either. Today they're both giving me fits, turning an hour test into 2 hours. I also found out that many of your emails were deleted from the class distribution list. I can't show you the archived emails because that was one of the addresses deleted. I know the archive address was in there because a couple of the emails got to the archive over the last few weeks. However, I apologize for you not receiving them all.
To recap, we've been working on a lot a school.
I've fixed it and have an email for every student verified in there. I email at least once a week, so if you don't get one for a while, something is wrong.
We have a Social Studies test tomorrow on Citizenship. They need to know the answers to the Essential Questions on the project website (http://brazile.education/social_studies/citizenship1.html) . It's a short unit and a basic test. To review, they should look over their project work (hopefully they've turned it in digitally so they have copies – I'm trying to get all the hand-written work back as soon as possible when I get it). We start the Civil War/Reconstruction Unit this week.
In Science, we're working on Constructive/Destructive Forces.
In Reading, we're finishing our basic skill work with Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.
If you have any questions, please ask.

Subject: Kemp - Brazile T-shirts
I'm sending this to the parents of the students that have not ordered a class t-shirt yet. I've made an online order form. Please send in $10 for each shirt ordered. Envelopes can be found in the front office or from me in the classroom. Place the payments in the black box found by either entrance to the media center.
If you've already ordered, I did not receive the form. Once I've received the forms, I'll cross reference the payments before placing the order on August 28th. Please have the order and payment completed by August 27th if you would like your student to receive a class t-shirt. We'll wear these for field trips and field day.

FW: We sent your funds to Mali!
Parents-
Just an update:
Report cards are set to be mailed out on Friday. I'll send individual emails later if I do not have an envelope or postage. Those will be available for pick up in the front office.
The results of the Milestones testing will not be in for a few more months as they "norm" the scores of this initial test.
I heard from the Charity:Water organization about the campaign we promoted in which we raised $795. Below is the email that I was sent. Our money is going to help the people of Mali. Please let your child know that they played a part in bettering the lives of many people.
Thanks again for the opportunity to teach your child.
Please have a safe and happy summer,
Shane Brazile
100% of your money is going to work in Mali.
