Parents-

I'm attaching a letter referencing the career project that your 5th grader will start tomorrow. In a nutshell, it's saying that every year we have a lot of kids wanting to research being a pro athlete. The point of the project is for kids to identify the training and experienced needed for a profession and many times this is lost on those researching athletes. The note says to let me know if you want them studying athletes. I don't really need a note myself, but just remind your student to focus on the hard work and dedication needed for those professions.

Thanks,

Shane Brazile

Kemp - Brazile

Parents -

We've made it through testing! Everyone survived and we made it through relatively unscathed.

Contrary to what the kids think, I will continue to teach, they'll continue to work, and school will go on.

We're still working on our Instructional Videos. Next week, we have one more video and Rock Eagle. Information went home about the trip. If you don't have the info sheet, I'll get you a copy.

Thanks,
Shane Brazile

Will you please send this to parents?  Thank you so much!!!

Parents,

We are excited to announce our 2nd annual College Day for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. This is a great way to support our Career and College Readiness initiative! We are looking for current college students in a vocational, undergraduate or graduate leveled program that would like to come and talk to our 3 rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. College Day is the morning of Friday, May 20, 2016. If you know someone in college or in a vocational training program that would like to participate, please have him/her complete the form attached and return it to your school counselors by April 29, 2016.

Sincerely,

Jenni Briggs, Michelle Stevens and Alicia Pope

Testing - Kemp

Parents-

Our first day of testing went well. Everyone was able to complete the Reading sections without issues. Tomorrow, we take on the Language Arts section. I know they're all looking forward to it (it has more writing involved). Friday will be Math, followed by Science and Social Studies the next week.

Make sure they're resting so we see their best effort each day.

Thanks!
Shane Brazile

Testing - Kemp

Parents-

Testing has finally arrived! The kids have practiced quite a bit so they're familiar with how it works on the computers. Should be second nature now. They've seen all the material and I feel like they're ready. I just need their best effort.

We start in the morning around 8 and most days it will last about 2 hours. Actual test time hovers around 70-90 minutes. They'll break in between sections for a bathroom break and stretch. We should finish each day by 10:30-11:00. Our specials time is 1:35-2:00 during testing week. They need to be rested each day. Thanks!

The kids seemed very surprised to find out that we'll continue to work from now until the end of the year. They have Social Studies and Science projects - the Instructional Videos. They'll research a standard and create their own educational movie. They're working on Social Studies this week and Science next week. We'll look at introduction to 6th grade standards after that. In Reading, we're continuing with Pictures of Hollis Woods. In Math, it's review and preview for 6th. I'll only test them on 5th grade skills, though.

Remind them how effort is the key with this testing thing (and life).

Thanks!
Shane Brazile

Kemp - Brazile

Parents-

It's Report Card Day! Personally, I dreaded those days. Always worried I might get surprised. But, with online grades, this seems like a formality now. The report cards are in their possession now and will be coming home with the signature card. Please sign that and return it tomorrow.

If you go online now, it will probably show a different grade for the 3rd quarter. They system online isn't perfect. I drop a grade or 2 in math each quarter, but I don't like to do that until we have a few under our belt each quarter. Since I'm not dropping any right now in Math, last quarter's grades do not reflect any dropped grades either. It's right on the report cards, just not online right now. You shouldn't need to look at last quarter, but some of the kids have and they were freaking out.

Some of you have already sent in self-addressed, stamped envelopes for the final report card. Thanks. For those that haven't, please send them in the next few weeks. If we don't get them, you'll have to come by the office during the summer to pick them up.

Also, our class will be taking the end of year tests on the computers this year. The kids are excited about it and I've heard it means our scores will come back sooner (don't hold me to that part, it's just what I heard). We'll take some practice tests so they get used to it beforehand. I'll also send home a letter about it soon, too.

Please let me know if you have any questions,
Shane Brazile
