Kemp - Brazile

Parents-

Good morning. Hope everyone enjoyed some family time during the fall break. We're moving closer to the end of the first quarter. We'll be wrapping up our projects in Social Studies and Science soon. I think we have a few that are learning the importance of time management and organization. The first quarter is always a learning process.

The quarter ends next week, but report cards will not be distributed until conferences which start October 19th. I've set up a sign up form to get conferences set up. The link will be inactive after October 1st. The link to sign up is: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d4da5a92fa2fa7-brazile2

You can also find it on our class website under "Class Links." There, you can also view a few of the dioramas the kids have created under the "Showcase" tab. More pictures to come later.

Had a problem this morning with quite a bit of the class extending their vacation on their math work. We were not able to finish it all in class so they were to do it at home. Some did, some didn't, some did it halfway. Tomorrow, they see a darker side of Mr. Brazile if they don't have their work completed. Actually, they'll see Mrs. Thomas. Hoping it lights a fire under those who are still vacationing.

Thanks, and please let me know if you have any questions.
Shane Brazile

Kemp - Brazile 9/16

Parents-

Main points for the email:

·        Chaperone notices went out by email last week and hard copy this week. I need them back as soon as possible so we can draw out chaperone names (we'll notify everyone on October 8th).

·        Project due dates are being pushed back.

·        School is boring and I want to change it.

Now for the long-winded version. Actually the chaperone part above said what I want to say about that. For projects, I've re-evaluated the due dates and while I think it's possible, I think it's too aggressive for this group this early in the year. I'm moving the due dates back a little. I still need to meet some deadlines in order to meet quarter dates but I'm pushing the next due dates back. I'll have it updated on the website soon.

I redesign the projects each year and I've tried to trim out the "busy work" and focus more on the content. In doing so, I think it's very boring. I'm not seeing the creativity in the project production that I was hoping for, but I don't think the parameters I set really allow for it. I can't change this unit, but know I'm working on changing it all for the next units. I want to do more critical thinking and increase the creativity. School needs to be more fun and more engaging, my aim is to get there soon. In saying that, I want to point out that we have a talking problem. Now that we've admitted we have a problem, we'll work on fixing it. I'm cracking down this week or I'm ripping my ears off. Since I need them for my glasses, I'm opting for the former.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Shane Brazile

Kemp - Brazile 9/11

Parents -

I'm extremely frustrated. Not with your kids, but with my memory. I'm attaching a form I was supposed to send out today about the Rock Eagle trip in April. The gist is that we have too many who want to chaperone. Normally, volunteers are good, but there's not enough space for the teachers, kids, and chaperones. So, I'm attaching a sheet to let you know that we can only take 5 chaperones per classroom and we need a deposit by October 29th.

Also, I have Spirit Wear to deliver to the kids (at least those who ordered it) on Monday.

Math tests went home today. Their error analysis is due Monday morning (they know how to do this - correct each problem on a separate page and attach to the original test).

Have a good weekend and Roll Tide!,

Parents –

·        Progress Reports coming home today

·        Math – working on decimal multiplication, then decimal division (IXL skill correlations listed below)

·        Social Studies – Starting Civil War/Reconstruction unit

·        Science – Constructive/Destructive Force unit

·        Reading – continuing Hatchet

·        Writing – continued expository writing in S.S./Science

I'm sending home a progress report for each student. It's reflective of what's online through ParentVue. All grades are entered for assignments I've received as of 9:00am this morning (Wednesday). I'll send personal notes for any student with a grade below a C.

For Math, some have asked for the IXL correlations for what we're studying in Math. We're working on decimal multiplication this week and next, before moving to decimal multiplication after that. IXL correlations  for both are shown below.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Shane Brazile

Parents –

Just a quick note of thanks to Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Tarpley for sending in straws for our class. We have enough to do our hands-on experiment.

Thanks!!
