FW: 5th Grade Slide Show Photos

Dear 5^th Grade Parents,

The slide show committee needs photos of your child! Please send in the following:

· Photos of your child throughout his/her years at Kemp.

· 5-7 pictures per child.

Please load your photos onto a cd,dvd or flash drive.

Write your child's name and the teacher's name on the disc.

Send it in to your child's teacher to the attention of Kim Even/5^th Grade DVD.

Please send in your child's pictures by March 14^th. Due to production time constraints NO LATE CD's or DVD's will be accepted after that date.

Kemp - Brazile - Valentine's Day

Parents-

The kids will have the opportunity to exchange Valentine's Day cards Wednesday morning. They do not have to participate if they do not want to. We ask the kids to bring in a paper bag or small box with their name prominently displayed. We'll line those in the hall outside our classroom. As the kids arrive Wednesday, they can distribute the cards.

Kemp - Brazile 2/7/2014

Parents-

Another week down. It was a full week for a change, but don’t get used to it. Next week, we’re out Thursday and Friday due to furlough days and the following week, we’re out Monday and Tuesday. The schedule has thrown off our unit test dates, but we’ll make it work. We’re close to wrapping up the Science Electricity and Magnetism unit and will have the unit test Friday, February 21^st. With Social Studies, we’ll complete the WWII unit with our test on Tuesday, February 25^th.

Monday is our last day to turn in the Six Flags Reading Log for the kids to earn a free ticket to Six Flags. Check out the links below (or the Dec 13 email archive through our “News” page on the class website).

In Reading, we’re working through Lois Lowry’s Number the Stars, a story about a 13 year old’s experience in WWII Denmark. I’ll continue to model how to think while reading, as well as pointing out elements of the writing.

For Writing, it’s still integrated throughout the Social Studies and Science units. We do have a narrative piece we started today and will work on through the next week of school.

In Math, we’re working on Volume as a class. Everyone did well on the skills test today and we’ll focus on the Volume Pool Project this next “week.” I need the kids on IXL covering computation skills. We work on it daily and some have gotten a little lackadaisical with their effort. The 2014 CRCT skills breakdown increases to 55% this year (last year was 50%). That’s a big increase on an area that is traditionally a tough area.

Spelling continues and next week, the kids will receive their new words which will cover this next Monday through Wednesday and the following Wednesday through Friday.

There is still a stomach bug running through the school, so watch for any “under the weather” signs.

Kemp - 5th grade

Dear 5th grade parents,

We are beginning the process of creating the DVD for the 5th grade slideshow. As many of you know, during the graduation celebration on the last day of school, the slideshow is presented to the parents and is later shown to the kids after the celebration. We cannot create this lifelong memory without your help.

We are requesting the help of one parent per classroom. This is such an easy, quick way that you can help without leaving the comfort of your home or your pj's (if you wish). This parent needs to be someone who is computer literate. We will soon be requesting that each child send in a cd to this room parent with 5-7 pictures. The room parent will then create one cd with all of the files of childrens’ pictures for the class on it. This is the disc that we will use to create the slide show. Detailed instructions will be given as to how to format this disc.

If you are interested in helping out, please email your child’s teacher.

FW: New Carpool Policy for Late Arrivals

Teachers,

Please forward the email below to your parents. We will begin this on Wednesday. The only change is for those who arrive after all the cars have been filled in the line. Thanks!

Parents,

Starting on Wednesday, January 29^th, we will begin a new carpool procedure. We will continue waiting outside for parents until there are no more cars in the carpool line. Once the cars are all filled, we will bring the students inside to wait for parents to arrive. This is approximately 2:30 pm. This is just an approximation, as we will be moving inside when there are no longer cars in the line.

If you arrive after this time, we will be in the lobby waiting with the students. Please park in a parking space and come in to pick up your child. Please do not block the driveway by parking in the carpool line. When you come in, please bring your carpool number as identification.

If your child is not picked up by 2:45 pm, they will be sent to ASP. You will be charged $7 per day, as well as a $10 registration fee if you are not currently registered.

Kemp - Brazile 1/27 update

Parents -

I know I look like an idiot but there's another change. I don't want to mislead you or candy coat it. It was suggested the other day that I change and now I've been asked to change back.

I'll need a chance to reconstruct the webpages. Due to this confusing chain of events, we'll disregard the prior due dates and just make the assignments due by the new test dates (I will post those on the site but expect about a week later than originally posted).

I sincerely apologize for the confusion and look forward to getting back to the great things we've been working on.

All work the kids completed Monday, will not be in vain. I'll work it in as "class work" assignments.

Kemp - Brazile - 1/27/2014

Parents-

The format in class is changing. I hate to do it in the middle of a unit, but I have to make the change now. Please don’t worry about your child not getting credit for the work and projects they’ve completed, they will still get credit. They can continue to work on projects at home for more credit if they so choose but I am not requiring it.

The homework section of our website is changing also. We’ve consistently had the same assignments but due to the change I feel it’s important to list what we’ve completed in class as well as any homework assignments. You can still find the homework listed under the “News” tab.

If at any time your child has a problem with the work, please let me know. Homework may be a little more as we move through different material. If it’s too much one night, please just let me know with a note. I don’t want them spending hours and shedding tears. Today was a little harder for them because they’re still used to working at a different pace, so there may be some classwork being finished for homework.

Kemp - Brazile 1/17

Parents –

Just want to say “Congratulations!” to our 3 representatives in the Spelling Bee. In the competition between the top 4^th and 5^th graders, our classmates made it several rounds. Daniel and Ashley finished just outside the top 10 and Olivia finished 3^rd overall. Some of the hardest words this year and great spellers throughout the competition.

Please remember - No school Monday for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
